Isabella

Isabella Asensio is a creative and entrepreneur in love with natural fabrics. She creates custom projects such as counter covers, ornaments with natural fibers and many decorative details.

N We already know a little about you but... how would you like to introduce yourself on our blog?
I am a simple girl who is dedicated to home decoration, she loves DIY and natural materials.

N What is your relationship with natural fibers? Discovery... or coincidence.
I work directly with natural fibres. I create my own design products and combine wood and natural fibres. I love them.

N DIY requires learning and dedication, for us it is still a craft. What is your point of view?
Same, DIYs require technique and dedication. Patience is needed and of course a lot of love and dedication.

N Of your projects, do you remember any that you particularly liked?
The one that stands out the most is my first commission for a rattan seat where I had to weave the rattan strips by hand. I looked through tutorials and books and took the opportunity to do the job and went for it. Hole by hole, I worked for hours to finish the seat to the point where all I saw was the weave everywhere I looked. I remember it the best because when I finished it I felt so good to have taken on that challenge using the resources at hand and a little initiative.

N Do you have any favourite material? The one that can't be missing from your checklist...
It's hard to pick a favorite because they're all beautiful and useful in different ways, but I've really enjoyed working with Danish rope lately because of its texture and contrast.

N Looking at history and learning from those who know is important... Do you have any design or artistic references that you would like to highlight?
I enjoy art nouveau, mid-century modern, space age, Bauhaus and Memphis styles for their experimental uses of materials and their ability to create surreal spaces. I also appreciate Japanese carpentry for its sophisticated woodworking techniques.

N Success is very satisfying, but failure helps too. Do you have any advice or comments you would like to share with beginners and veterans?
Mistakes are where you learn the most. All veterans started out as beginners and through hard work and experimentation, they have developed their skills over time. My best advice is to have a passion for learning and enjoy the work you do at all levels.

Thank you Isabella!
